Colchester school in lockdown for drug search
Posted: Feb 23, 2012 10:46 AM EST Updated: Feb 23, 2012 12:03 PM EST
COLCHESTER, CT (WFSB) -
Bacon Academy in Colchester was in lockdown this morning due to a planned drug search at the school.
A canine unit is being used to investigate for drugs.
Officials from Bacon Academy say students are staying inside the classrooms during the search and teaching is going on as normal.
No one is allowed on school grounds while the search is underway.
According to Bacon Academy, a notice will go home with students at the end of the day with the results of the search.
"How do four students paying a small fine and being suspended from
school, and most likely staying in the school system for another year
protect your one child (kid) or anyone else's child any more then it did
before the search? May I suggest that you do what the other 995 of us
do and tell your child not to do what the other 4 are doing! We all are
entitled to an opinion I can not accept your reasoning to support the
resources used to surround a school with state police vehicles, lock up
the bathrooms for hours, and have the dogs running the school hallways
to apprehend these four children. The states' resources could have been
better spent going after the dealers and suppliers, which got a free
pass on Thursday."
"Sad that searches have to take place, but they are well within their
right to do it. People in nice towns like Colchester or those who send
their kids to private schools always think that they're exempt from the
same problems that plague inner city schools. Fact is most kids in the
suburbs have too much time and money on their hands. Those that were
nabbed were just the ones stupid enough to bring that garbage into
school. I'll bet there are many more doing the drugs. Time for parents
to step up and get nosey."
How much did this operation cost? How much are Colchester taxpayers
paying for the State Police K-9 units coming in to conduct the search?
It's really good to see that this week of scheduled school vacation was
used to improve the students' hearts and minds. Clearly someone in
authority over estimated the problem if from a population of a 1000 only
4 bruised apples were found. The school board has not only lost my
vote, they have lost my trust!
" if my 1 kid is one of those 1000 kids and there are 4 kids breaking the
law, doing drugs, probably pressuring others to do drugs.... then I dont
care how much they spend of my tax dollars to protect my one kid and
the other 995 kids that are not breaking the law. For you to say 'only'
shows the lack of care and dismissive who cares attitude that the kids
who were arrested have probably grown up with from thier parents."
OpenYourEyesParents kommented:
"take it from a student- there's minimal to no pressure on us to do
drugs, drink, or have sex. people quite frankly don't give a **** what
you do. wanna smoke? okay. won't smoke when someone offers? okay.
students don't really care too much about what other students do with
their lives. straightlaced is cool, drug addict is cool. as a whole
we're very accepting, so don't blame it on peer pressure"
"one student says 8, you say 4... point is...its illegal period. And
cops should search schools when ever they want, period. If you dont like
that idea then you are hiding something. And it is not the schools
fault, not the town or states fault, not bozo the clowns fault. It is
lack of parental guidance and supervison, and lack of kids having
respect for thier parents, themselves or society. I dont care what you
do on your own time, you want to destroy your life, fine with me. Just
dont desrupt anyone elses time space or life with your stupidity. Being a
non-drug user should be the norm. sickening."
" weed is the normal around our school (yes I'm a student at "Baked
Academy") and students get busted for it all the time. classes went on
as normal for the most part during the lockdown, aside from the students
(including myself) who were in the halls when the lockdown was issued
and had to find any classroom to be in. this type of thing, narcotic
searches, happens everywhere around the state and around the nation.
just because colchester was once a small, nice town and now has a
reputation for drugs doesn't mean that it's a terrible place. you'd be
surprised how many things go unnoticed in other places- Bacon Academy is
no different from any other high school, we just got exposed."
(thats a fact there)
"I go to this school! by the time we were allowed to leave the freaking
rooms I had to pee so bad! but they locked all the girls bathrooms on
the second floor, so we had to go to the first floor! I was told people
were arrested! My school is getting more ghetto everyday! lol"
"Hahaha this is my school. SOO many people were abusted. It's sad how many people do drugs here. "
" im not sayin everybody there but alot of colchester is like this i was
very well educated on all of those topics and lets just say im on my
second kid i smoked weed im not perfect nobody is but i do give u alot
of credit for doing what ur doing and yes i know its every where im just
stating the fact that pretty much colchester needs more things to do
for teenagers becuase when people get bored with nothing to do and lots
of money it doesnt always turn out good "
" they will be some and lots colchesters the rich town with absoultly
nothing to do but lots of money so everyone turns to drugs colchester
might seem like that perfect town but if u live there u know i cant wait
to see what happens "
" Guaranteed they will find some. No doubt. Right now some people are sweating bullets. "
" that's for sure, i bet there will be alot too! But Mom, Dad, I swear it's not mine...."
So open your eyes parents, or keep them close and don't complain...
Auf FB jedenfalls war mein favorite comment:
